The U.S. Army has selected L3Harris Technologies to provide its NOVA night-vision goggle system as part of the Binocular Night Observation Device program.
The Army awarded a seven-year contract worth up to $465 million to L3Harris, which serves as one of several companies chosen to support the program. The NOVA system is a helmet-mounted binocular device that modernizes fielded capabilities by providing all-hour and all-weather situational awareness for the U.S. military and allies.
The technology integrates L3Harris’ image intensifier technology and is designed to meet the needs of the military for the next 20-plus years. This award builds on the company’s existing support of U.S. Department of War night-vision programs, including the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular, of which L3Harris has delivered more than 20,000 units to date.
“As an appropriator and a senior member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, I’m committed to supporting our national security by ensuring our service men and women have access to the best equipment to defend our freedoms,” said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H. “Investments like this not only bolster the Granite State’s economy, but also directly contribute to the safety and security of the United States and our allies.”
“We worked closely with the Army to understand their requirements for a next-generation binocular solution that is highly capable and low cost,” said Brenna Baker, President, Integrated Vision Solutions, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, L3Harris. “We are focused on moving directly into production to quickly put this capability into the hands of soldiers.”
