Leading developer of electric propulsion solutions for defense and aerospace applications, Plettenberg, has developed a new series of BLDC drone motors with a focus on redundancy and reliability.
Based on the company’s proven NOVA family of rugged inrunner motors, the NOVA X-Series features up to three redundant windings powered by up to three independent ESCs (electronic speed controllers).
Redundancy and reliability are are essential for tactical UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) and drones, as OEMs prepare for stringent certification processes, and the aircraft’s propulsion system is one of the most critical components. With a redundant propulsion system, UAVs can perform a safe emergency landing, even if one of the ESCs fails and a winding segment of the motor is destroyed. A multi-winding propulsion system can also be a simpler, lighter and less expensive alternative to a coaxial propulsion system.
All NOVA X-Series motors can be tailored to the user’s exact requirements. This includes factors such as thermal design, ingress protection up to IP67, winding, number of poles, and more.
