Accelerate Defense Modernization through Strategic Sourcing
Discover cutting-edge solutions from leading global suppliersA new capability for tactical headsets allows ground forces to detect the acoustic signature of multi-rotor drones significantly earlier than with the naked ear.
Developed by INVISIO, the Drone Aware technology integrates directly into the existing T30 headset without requiring additional equipment or user training. The software-driven enhancement operates entirely as a passive system, ensuring zero radio frequency emissions in high-risk operational environments where electronic signatures must be strictly minimised. The technology is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2026.
Early warning is seen as a critical factor for survivability on the modern battlefield, where uncrewed aerial systems have fundamentally altered tactical risks.
Jonathan Wassberg, Product Manager of Headsets at INVISIO, said, “Becoming aware of a drone as early as possible is extremely important. Every second matters and every second gained increases the ability to better deploy counter measures for the exposure.”
The base T30 platform provides hearing protection rated at 31 dB SNR / 33 dB NRSA20 by combining passive physical protection with active noise reduction while maintaining baseline environmental hearing. The hardware connects to standard control units, including the V50 Gen II and V60 Gen II, as well as the P30 versatile Push-to-Talk unit. Power requirements are flexible, allowing the headset to run independently on standard AA batteries, directly from connected tactical radios, or via external control units and digital devices like smartphones and laptops.
Jonathan Wassberg, Product Manager of Headsets at INVISIO, added, “While different technologies are available for drone detection, including radar, optic and RF, the use of acoustic enhancement in the T30 headset is practical and effective, providing enhanced situational awareness for the drone threat and ensuring the end user has their hands and eyes free to counter such an attack.”
