Riot Control Devices, Gear and Weaponry
Riot control equipment used in riot control situations to disperse and detain rioters, include less lethal weapons such as:
- batons
- tear gas
- pepper spray
- rubber bullets
- beanbag rounds
- electric tasers
In some cases, riot control personnel may also use long range acoustic devices, water cannons, armoured fighting vehicles, aerial surveillance, and dogs.
Anti Riot Armor & Protective Clothing
Riot control is typically carried out by personnel wearing protective anti riot armor such as riot helmets, face visors, body armour (vests, neck protectors, knee pads, etc.), gas masks and riot shields. These are designed to protect the wearer from blades and other improvised weapons used during hand-to-hand combat as well as thrown objects such as bottles and bricks.
Fence & Barrier Systems
Crowd control fence and barrier systems include chain-link fences and plastic ‘fence-in-a-bag’ systems to more stable, solid, and modular metal fences. These can be augmented by adding concertina wire, barbed wire or razor wire as well as anti-vehicle barriers and anti-ram barriers.
