Bomb Disposal Robots & Technology

Bomb disposal robots are typically UGVs (unmanned ground vehicles) controlled from afar either wirelessly or via a cable. They may be equipped with caterpillar tracks, and some may have special wheel configurations that allow them to traverse stairs. Some robots are lightweight and small enough to be carried by a single operator and thrown over a wall or through a window for indoor missions.

Bomb disposal robots usually have a manipulator arm that may have a grabber as well as tools such as wirecutters to help traverse obstacles. The arm may also have a camera mounted on it, as well as a special waterjet tool that can quickly cut the power wires to an explosive device.

EOD robots can be quickly deployed from bomb disposal vehicles and can provide operators with a FPV (first person view) of the mission via real-time video feeds relayed back to the EOD vehicle.
